Despite the loss, the Cavaliers outhit the Seminoles 10-7, with seven of their nine starters recording hits. This marked only the second instance this season that Virginia dropped back-to-back games, the first being against Miami on March 8 and 9. Anthony Stephan led Virginia’s offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Henry Godbout (2-for-4) and Casey Saucke (2-for-5) also had multi-hit performances (Sporting News) (Yahoo Sports).
Florida State maintained control throughout the game, breaking it open with four two-out runs in the fifth inning. Jaime Ferrer was particularly impressive, hitting home runs in consecutive at-bats and driving in a game-high four runs. Ferrer now leads all players in the 2024 NCAA Tournament with 15 RBIs, showcasing his significant impact in the Seminoles’ lineup (Yahoo Sports).
This victory advances Florida State further in the tournament, where they will continue to compete among the top teams in college baseball. Meanwhile, Virginia will reflect on a strong season that ultimately fell short in the highly competitive environment of the College World Series
