A 20-year-old Chesterfield woman died following a crash in Hampton Saturday evening.
The Virginia State Police identified the woman as Keira Melesha Reese-Johnson.
Dispatchers received a call at around 7:36 p.m. Saturday about a black sedan traveling slowly in the second lane of Interstate 64 westbound, west of Mercury Boulevard.
Then another call came in about a two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes, east of Magruder Boulevard.
State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said an investigation indicated Reese-Johnson was driving a black 2000 Mercedes Benz when the vehicle became disabled and stopped in the lane of travel.
“Upon stopping in the travel lane, the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2005 GMC Suburban,” Anaya wrote in a news release.
Johnson was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
An 11-year-old child in the Suburban was also taken to the hospital. Information on the child’s condition was not immediately available.
“Alcohol nor speed were contributing factors in the incident,” Anaya said. “No charges will be placed.”
