Thanks to expanded programming and the addition of new sea animals, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center has broken its revenue records.

This year, the aquarium saw its highest ever membership revenue, with a 10 percent increase from fiscal year 2015. Aquarium admissions and store sales both increased 11 percent from last year.

Annual attendance reached the second highest point in the aquarium’s history, second only to 1997 when the aquarium underwent a large expansion.

The aquarium’s successful year can be attributed to several updated programs and exhibits, including the Valentine’s Day Dinner with the fishes, Wild Workshops Paint Night series, a new harbor seal and two new crocodiles.
