Virginia Beach’s first ever escape room is expanding to a second location on the Peninsula.

The new Hampton location will celebrate its grand opening Thursday, Dec. 15.

In an escape room game, participants are locked in a room and must work together to discover clues, solve puzzles, and escape, said Virginia Beach Escape Room general manager Kristen Sill.

Hampton Roads residents can experience four new interactive escape rooms at the Peninsula location — the Great Estate Burglary, Alien Abduction, Cabin 11, and Greta’s Diner. The themes are created in-house by the creative Escape Room staff and take an hour to solve, according to Sill.

“Depending on the room or the scenario, participants could be looking for an inheritance check or a cell phone,” she said. “The success rate is less than 50 percent, so people are always excited to come back and give it another try.”

Sill says opening a second location was a no-brainer.

“When we first opened the Escape Room in Virginia Beach, we were not really sure how the public would take it, but they welcomed us with open arms,” she said. “We’ve had so many families and companies come through that see the benefits of team building and communication in the escape rooms, and we’re excited to reach a whole new demographic on the Peninsula.”
