William D. Messinger, 78, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, in Virginia Beach. Born on Aug. 19, 1938 in Boston, Mass., he was the son of Irving and Mary Messinger.
William retired from U.S. Steel in Brighton, Mass., before moving to Virginia Beach 25 years ago, where he worked at Lynnhaven Mall as a member of the custodial crew.
He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-laws, James and Denene Messinger of Virginia Beach, and Donald Messinger and Mary Sullivan of Quincy, Mass.; sons, William Messinger of Dedham, Mass., Daniel Hoffman of Brighton, Mass.; John Hoffman of Hyannis, Mass., and Smokey Hoffman of Marshfield, Mass.; daughter, Missy Hoffman of Brighton, Mass.; and nephew, Don Messinger and family of Harwich, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
The family will be planning a memorial service to be held at a later date in Brighton, Mass.
