Getting a job is a different process than adapting to the workplace.
There are professional ways to present yourself, communicate and understand a company’s culture and they will be the focus of an upcoming career readiness event at Tidewater Community College. The Blackboard 2 Boardroom Career and Professional Development Conference will take place Saturday, Nov. 5 at TCC’s Student Center in Virginia Beach, 1700 College Crescent, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Women’s Center Advisory Council at TCC will host the event, which is free and open to the public.
The day’s schedule features a diverse keynote panel of professional women, such as Department of Labor Career Transition Trainer Marlo Callaway, Apprentice Pilates Instructor Karen Anderson, Reiter & Reiter PLLC Certified Public Accountant Helen Reiter and TCC alumnus Natalie Berger-Young.
There will also be interactive workshops designed to educate people about an array of potential workplace minefields: intergenerational communication, office politics and having a professional presence on social media. There’s even a professional etiquette luncheon.
“We are trying to demonstrate to the college and community the women’s center’s focus on leadership development and career readiness,” said TCC’s Intercultural Programming and Communications Specialist Jessica Watson.
People interested in attending can RSVP before the Oct. 31 deadline here.
