Restaurant week, an illusionist and family art night: The Southside Scene for Feb. 25-28

Southside Daily will help get your weekend started every Thursday with the Southside Scene, a selection of events in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Want to tell us and others about another happening? Submit your festival, concert or other event to our calendar for free.

Virginia Beach Restaurant Week: Restaurants across the city are offering collections of their best appetizers, entrees and desserts. Head to your favorite place to get a discount or take the opportunity to try a new one. Find a list of all participating restaurants and their menus here. Prices range from two-course lunch deals at $12 to three-course dinner options for $22 to $32. The special menus end Sunday.

Illusionist Rick Thomas: Thomas is known for incorporating magic, comedy, dance and music into his show, appealing to a variety of audience members. His work was featured on “Masters of Illusion” on the CW, MTV, FOX, TLC, Animal Planet and the History Channel. Thomas’ show ran in Las Vegas for 15 years. Tickets start at $37.

When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday

Where: Sandler Center

Bullet for My Valentine: The UK heavy metal band takes the stage on its Venom tour. Their fifth-full length album was released last May and their single off the album, “No Way Out,” hit 1 million views on YouTube in two weeks. Lead singer Matthew Tuck described their sound as a hard-rock band with metal influences. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

When: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, doors open at 5:30 p.m.

SweetArt Family Night: Bring the kids out to do a variety of hands-on activities while enjoying treats and a cash bar for adults. The night includes cookie decorating, arts and crafts, dancing and a musical performance from the C. Shells. It’s $7 for MOCA members over 3, and $10 for nonmembers. Note: This event was rescheduled from Feb. 12 and any tickets purchased for that date will be honored.

Pink Talking Fish: If you’re a fan of Pink Floyd, the Talking Heads, Phish, or even better, all three, this is the show for you. The hybrid-fusion tribute band pulls elements from each popular group and puts them together for a unique style and sound. For example, the group will take Pink Floyd’s “On The Run” and play it in the heart of Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself.” Tickets are $12.

When: 8 p.m. Saturday, doors open at 7 p.m.
