5A state swimming: Princess Anne boys take second place, girls seventh

The Princess Anne boys swimming team finished as a close runner-up for the second straight year in the 5A state championships Friday at George Mason University.

Senior Daniel Arris won the 100 breaststroke (57.67), beating teammate Eric Fuhs (58.97), who finished second. Arris finished second by an eyelash in the 200 individual medley (1:50.72) to Tuscarora’s Simon Shi (1:50.57).  Fuhs also finished as a close runner-up to Shi in the 500 free.

The Cavaliers boys 200 medley relay team finished second (1:36.36) by one second to Menchville, while the 200 free relay team finished fourth, and the 400 free relay team finished sixth.

On the girls side, Princess Anne freshman Charlie Burt placed seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:11.30) and eighth in the 100 backstroke (59.99), leading the Cavaliers’ seventh-place team finish. The 200 free relay team finished eighth (1:42.62).
