Cox boys and girls swim by 6A South Region field

In a meet designed to spark close finishes and nail-biting races, the Cox swim teams had no plans to take part in any drama.

The Falcon boys and girls swept the 6A South Region titles Saturday at Princess Anne Rec Center, combining to win 13 of 24 events.

The Cox boys (471) nearly doubled the score of second-place finisher Riverbend (247), while the girls (337) scored 88 more points than its runner-up, also Riverbend (259).

Tasos Moditsis guided the Falcons with wins in the 50 (24.05) and 100 freestyle (53.21) while anchoring the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Dan Bannon (1:55.76 in the 200 freestyle), Colin Demers (56.19 in the 100 backstroke) and the 200 medley relay team also finished first.

For the Cox girls, Tara LaRusso led the team with wins in the 100 freestyle (58.27) and 100 backstroke (1:03.53) while swimming on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Georgia DaCruz won the 100 butterfly (1:03.71) while Claire Ostrowski finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:20.47), one second faster than DaCruz’s second-place finish.

The Kellam girls finished third, led by Nicole Venema’s win in the 50 freestyle (26.83) and second-place finishes by the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Knights diver Molly Cassidy finished second in the 6A South Region diving meet while boys diver Jaylon Bost also finished runner-up, bolstering Kellam’s team score.

First Colonial’s Cason Wilburn won the 400 freestyle (4:03.53) and 100 butterfly (55.81) for the boys team.

Other Beach first-place finishers included Ocean Lakes’ Megan Motter in the 200 freestyle (2:07.45) and Landstown’s Ashley Kaminski in the 400 freestyle (4:27.16).
