Garden expo, First Friday ViBe and more: The Southside Scene for Feb. 4-7

Southside Daily will help get your weekend started every Thursday with the Southside Scene, a selection of events in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Want to tell us and others about another happening? Submit your festival, concert or other event to our calendar for free.

First Friday ViBe: Local businesses and artists will stay open late with special events and promotions. Chartreuse, a design company that also serves as an incubator for smaller businesses and artists will reveal new art pieces along with s’mores, a hot-chocolate bar and acoustic guitar performances. The Stockpot will have food and drink specials as well as mugs and other designs from ViBe artist Igor Acord. Commune will be feature a First Friday Burger Special. Polar Plunge Festival: Watch thousands of plungers take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean or participate yourself and raise money for Special Olympics. This year’s plunge will feature a new location, a 4-mile run, a 1-mile splash-and-dash run, a wedding, a costume contest and a festival on the beach.

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

Where: Oceanfront between 30th and 32nd streets

The Virginia Flower and Garden Expo: Flowers and plants will take over the Convention at this expo designed to promote gardening and plant education for everyone. Experts and professionals will give advice on plants, products, best practices and how to start your own garden. More than 100 vendors and exhibitors will show off a variety of plant products, with children’s activities and events on the main stage. Tickets are $10.

When: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Virginia Beach Convention Center

Super Bowl Events: Looking for a place to watch the big game Sunday? Here are a few options in Virginia Beach:

Froggie’s Oyster Bowl: Enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters, barbecue-styled food and two drink tickets for $20 in advance or $25 at the door. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3656 Shore Drive.

Eagles’ Nest Super Sunday: Participate in a $1,000 mega pool or enjoy the food and drink specials beginning at 4 p.m. 600 Nevan Rd.

Chix Seaside Grille & Bar: Watch the game on a 13-foot LED screen and enjoy game-day specials, including $5 burgers and $5 Orange Crush drinks. 701 Atlantic Ave. at the Oceanfront.
