Virginia Beach residents can recycle their Christmas trees by placing them on their curb on their normal collection day or by taking them to the city landfill, where they will be mulched.
The city’s Public Works Waste Management Division ask that all decorations, including lights, ornaments, tinsel and garland, be removed before the tree is disposed. Other holidays items, such as gift packaging material, gift boxes, tissue paper, holiday cards, cardboard and plain wrapping paper, can also be recycled in the blue recycle bin.
These items are not accepted in the blue bin: bubble wrap, ribbons, tape, bows, tree decorations, Christmas lights, sticky gift labels and laminated or coated gift bags. Plastic bags and foam peanuts can be taken to the City Landfill and Resource Recovery Center at 1989 Jake Sears Rd., or any Pak Mail center.
