Candlelight Christmas Eve Service: RED Church is hosting a pre-Christmas Eve event designed to enhance the holiday spirit and get people home in time for dinner. There will be live Christmas music, hot chocolate and presents for the children. It is free to attend.

When: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday

Where: Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, 2200 Parks Ave.

Whale-Watching Cruises: Rudee Tours guarantees visitors will see a whale or the next cruise is free. Captain Jeff and his crew will lead an educational tour along the Atlantic coast with a search for whales, dolphins, seals and birds. Each boat has two bathrooms, a snack bar, a full bar, an indoor heated cabin and an upper viewing deck. All boats are ADA compliant. Tours cost $28 for adults, $24 for children 4 to 11 and free for kids 3 and under. Each tour lasts two hours.

When: Tours leave at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Many more dates are available through March.

Where: 200 Winston Salem Ave.

Santa’s Seaside Village: Catch the last few days of the first year of this new Oceanfront event. The displays, carnival rides, stores and stands will be up until Sunday. Enjoy food, local artists and live entertainment before it’s gone until next year. Tickets are $4 a person or $10 for a family four-pack.

When: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday-Sunday

Where: Atlantic Avenue and 30th Street
