EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program announced Friday it raised more than $157,000 at its ninth-annual Stall Ball.

The Virginia Beach nonprofit will use the funds to improve the lives of children with mental, physical, emotional, social or learning disabilities through horseback riding.

Along with its sister organization, EQUI-VETS, the program serves 114 participants weekly, according to a release.

Fees billed to participants account for 15 percent of the services’ cost, making fundraisers like the Stall Ball critical to the programs’ survival, the release said.

The groups transformed their indoor riding arena and barn into an upscale ballroom for the event. It sold out with 650 guests.
