VIRGINIA BEACH — The search for a new city manager is nearing its end.
The City Council will interview candidates at an undisclosed location sometime in the next two weeks, according to Mayor Will Sessoms. No votes will be taken in that session. Twenty-seven people applied to succeed outgoing City Manager Jim Spore, who has held the role for 24 years.
Council members discussed in late November which applicants they want to bring in for an interview. Sessoms said Wednesday the number of candidates they will interview was still undetermined.
Spore will retire Dec. 31, and the city wants to line up his replacement before then.
“The rubber is hitting the road,” Sessoms said of the search.
