Cox’s Jon Lomogda verbally commits to run at Yale

Cox high school standout runner Jon Lomogda has verbally committed to Yale University, he said Sunday.

Lomogda became the first South Hampton Roads male runner to win a cross-country state title since 1984 when he won the 6A championship on Nov. 13.

The senior has dominated his competition all season. His performances this year include a personal record of 14:56 on Oct. 17 at the Cross Country Invitational. He has lost to only two runners this season, one being Loudoun Valley’s Andrew Hunter — the nation’s fastest cross-country runner.

Lomogda will compete Saturday at the Foot Locker South Regional meet at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte, N.C. A top-10 finish would earn him a trip to San Diego for the Foot Locker National Championships on Dec. 12.
