Rigell to speak at Veterans Day luncheon, public invited

The Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation is hosting a ceremony and luncheon on Veterans Day to honor and thank veterans, including the low-income homeless and disabled ones served by the affordable housing organization.

U.S. Rep. Scott Rigell will speak at the event, which is open to the public. Veterans are encouraged to attend.

The lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Enoch Baptist Church, 5641 Herbert Moore Rd. in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit that owns and manages more than 410 affordable housing units serving low-to-moderate income families, individuals, veterans, the homeless and people with disabilities, according to a media release.

The organization’s programs for veterans include its Cedar Grove apartments. Those apartments, completed in 2013, represent the first permanent supportive rental housing in Virginia to be developed for disabled veterans, according to the release.
