Cross-country results: Cox boys, Ocean Lakes and Kellam girls advance to 6A states

The top six teams and the top 10 individual runners not on an advancing team go to the state meet.

6A South Region girls

Recap: Ocean Lakes squeaked by Cosby for its third consecutive 6A South Region championship. The Dolphins placed two runners in the top four. Madeline King, last year’s regional champion, finished second (19:03.97), while Rachel Boyce (19:26.75) was fourth. Kellam’s Eileen Vedder finished 10th (19:54.78), leading the Knights to a state-qualifying sixth-place finish.

6A South Region boys

Recap: It was business as usual for Cox’s Jonathan Lomogda, whose 15:26.61 first-place time was a full 34 seconds better than second-place finisher Grant Northcutt (Cosby). His Falcons team finished third with a performance coach Lanny Doan called far from its best. Cox’s David Scherrer finished sixth (16:19.04), right behind Kellam’s Ryan Drew (16:13.33). Drew’s teammate Christian McDonald finished 12th (16:55.31). The Knights finished eighth as a team.
