A 50-year-old Virginia Beach man pleaded guilty today in federal court to a charge of distribution of child pornography.
Richard Midgett admitted in a plea agreement that he used a peer-to-peer file-sharing network in November 2014 to distribute a computer file showing child pornography, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia. A forensic analysis of Midgett’s computer showed that he had about 33,000 images and 1,817 videos of child pornography, according to the summary of the case.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 8. Midgett faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, though his punishment will be determined by the court based on sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors, according to the prosecutors.
