College Catch-Up: Following Beach athletes after high school

Boys’ Soccer

Johan De Picker (Ocean Lakes), Old Dominion University: The freshman midfielder has made an early impact, appearing in six matches off the bench and tallying one goal and one assist against Loyola.

Garrett Walke (Landstown), Old Dominion University: Walke played hero on Oct. 3 against Florida Atlantic University, when the sophomore midfielder scored the golden goal in double-overtime to give the Monarchs a 2-1 victory.


Taquan Mizzell (Bayside), University of Virginia: Starting in all six games this year, the junior tailback has been the Cavaliers’ top offensive weapon.  He leads UVa in rushing (252 yards and two touchdowns on 66 attempts) and receiving (409 yards and three touchdowns on 35 catches).

Demetrious Nicholson (Bayside), University of Virginia: The senior cornerback has started two of the five games he’s appeared in and totaled 13 tackles this season.

Quin Blanding (Bayside), University of Virginia: In five games this season, the junior free-safety has racked up 48 tackles (31 solo, 17 assisted), the second most for the Cavaliers.

David Dean (Green Run), University of Virginia: The senior co-captain and defensive end has 23 tackles in five games, including three sacks and five tackles for a loss of yards.
