Nancy Fraser Dabney, 82, antique hunter with a knack for interior design

Nancy Fraser Dabney

Nancy Fraser Dabney, 82, died peacefully Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Westminster-Canterbury Retirement Community.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Tressa and Simon Gordon Fraser, Nancy was raised in Damariscotta, Maine, where she graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1955. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend Fisher College and met her husband, John B. “Jack” Dabney, in Boston. Nancy and Jack were married in Damariscotta in 1959 and remained married for 45 years.

Nancy, devoted wife and mother of three, resided with her family for 27 years in Exeter, New Hampshire, where she was an active member of the Congregational Church and an employee of Philips Exeter Academy. An avid gardener, tennis player, knitter and antique hunter, she also had a passion for and took classes in interior decorating. In 2000, Nancy retired with Jack to Virginia Beach to care for him and to be near her grandchildren.

Widowed in 2005, Nancy eventually relocated to Westminster-Canterbury Retirement Community, and, for several years, joined in many resident activities, including traveling abroad, singing in the choir and engaging in a lively social life. She also faithfully continued annual summer trips to Maine with her family, and later on her own, for over 40 years, to be with dear friends and relatives.

Nancy is survived by her son, John B. Dabney, and his wife, Patricia; daughters, Laura F. Dabney, and her husband, Daryl Fanney, and Elizabeth H.D. Tombros, and her husband, Alex; and five grandchildren, Maeve Dabney, Ceili Dabney, Conner Fanney, and his wife, Maggie, Dalton Lewis Fanney and Aris Tombros.

A service will be held at a later date.
