Joan Theresa Proctor, 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Joan was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was adopted by Edward and Julia Prendergast around the age of four. She was raised in Needham, Massachusetts, and Detroit, Michigan.
Joan graduated from Dominican High School and Macomb Community College in Michigan. She was very proud of her career as a labor and delivery nurse where she worked for 16-plus years at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, Michian. Joan was a member of Unity Church in Rochester, Michigan, and Unity Renaissance in Chesapeake, where she volunteered in many positions.
She spent 12-plus years as a devoted volunteer at the Edgar Cayce Foundation A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment) in Virginia Beach. She so enjoyed her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, good books and movies.
Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jack, who she was married to for 28 years; daughter, Kristine Lutz; son, Peter Lutz; granddaughter, Joan Louise Lutz; sisters, Ruth Jones and Katherine Gustafson (Vic); stepchildren, Cheryl Simmons (Kevin), John Proctor (Sam), Sheila Proctor and Tom Proctor; nephews, Brad and David Jones and Peter Klein; nieces, Kristen Cocaccetta and Megan Tuquero; stepbrother, Brian MacRae (Nova Scotia); grandchildren, John, Josh and Michael Proctor, Rick Kresinske and Kara Stempkowski; as well as many relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Lutz; son, Erik Lutz; and parents, Edward and Julia Prendergast.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 virus.
