Shannon P. Boocks, 80, of Virginia Beach, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020.
Born in California, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Penny and Elizabeth Allen Blain.
After graduating from Christopher Newport College in mid-life, she had a distinguished 26-year career as an accountant and budget analyst in civil service for the U.S. Army, from which she received a Superior Civilian Service Award. During her tenure there, she spearheaded many initiatives, including the implementation of Uniform Funding and Management (UFM).
Shannon was known for her generosity and love of life. Her interests included showing Birman cats, breeding Pekingese dogs and gardening. She enjoyed growing orchids and African violets, and judging for her local garden club in her younger years. She treasured spending time with her only granddaughter and the times they traveled together within the United States and abroad. Shannon loved holidays; during Christmas and Easter her home was transformed into a festive wonderland of decorations for family, friends and neighbors to enjoy.
Left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Joseph H. Boocks Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, and Stephen Boocks, and his wife, Lori; two sisters, Ellen Nash and Debra Everson; and granddaughter, Heather Boocks. She is also survived by her former husband, Joseph H. Boocks Sr. The family especially thanks Cathy Higginbotham who was a source of caring support and friendship during her later years.
Donations in her honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are private.
