Andreas Velasco Woods

Andreas Velasco Woods, 30, went to his final resting place Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020. He was born Nov. 25, 1989, in Virginia Beach to Donald and Carina Woods.

Andreas graduated from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. After college, he moved to Vallejo, California, where he accepted a position as a lab analyst at EAG Inc. He later worked as a tech support at Bio-Rad Laboratories then as a field engineer at Agilent Technologies.

Andreas was known as “Arjod” to his family and “Dre” to his friends. He considered his friends his second family and enjoyed traveling with them. He worked hard and played even harder. He loved snowboarding, gardening, camping, hiking, gourmet cooking, painting, skydiving, live music, astronomy, weight lifting and Gucci window shopping.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Donald and Carina; siblings, Terence (Jennezel) and Katrina (Gerry); nieces and nephews, Robert, Joseph, Katerrina, Bianca, Gabriel and Arabella; cousins, Michael, Michelle and Mclene in Virginia; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins in the U.S., the Philippines, Germany and Australia; and many special friends who will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St., Norfolk. A reception will be held after the burial at Andreas’ parents’ home in Norfolk. All of Dre’s friends are encouraged to join.
