Lucy Holmes Vaughan Taylor Redick, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach.
Lucy was born June 18, 1929, in Crewe, Nottaway County, to Holmes Arthur Vaughan and Sarah Carr Vaughan. She graduated from Longwood College with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. She taught five years in Suffolk and 30 years in Virginia Beach. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, and later at Sandbridge Community Chapel UMC.
After retiring from her 35-year-teaching career, she enjoyed recreational vehicle travel with her husband, Jack, throughout the United States and beyond. She loved spending time with her grown children, but particularly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Holmes Arthur Vaughan and Sarah Carr Vaughan; sisters, Elizabeth Vaughan Pritchett and Frances Vaughan Garland; first husband, Charles William Taylor II (Buck); and granddaughter, Kory Forrest Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Hamilton Redick; children, Charles William Taylor III (Chuck), Nancy Holmes Taylor, Sarah Jean Taylor, Kip Hamilton Redick, and his wife, Sarah, and Kim Redick Forrest, and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Kymberly Forrest Carr, and her husband, Paul, Caroline Redick, Caleb Redick, and his wife, Denae, and Matt Jones; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and staff that took care of Lucy, Cora Parker, Tamieca Holloman, Our Lady of Perpetual Help caregivers and staff as well as Westminster Canterbury Hospice nurses and staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association.
