Paul Steven Fortner Sr., of Virginia Beach, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Hawkins; father, Ross D. Fortner; and brother, William Fortner.

He is survived by his children, Paul S. Fortner Jr., (Lauren) and Katie Fortuna (Michael); beloved grandchildren, Julia and Luke Fortuna; mother, Audrey Fortner; siblings, R. David Fortner (Teresa), Deborah Gay (Bobby) and Gregory Fortner (Judy); numerous nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.

A hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, he felt at peace in nature, connected to his Native-American roots and his cherished West Virginia. He loved sports: playing them, watching them, coaching them. He taught his children and other children the values of teamwork, determination, and dedication through his role as “Coach.”

He was a pharmacist, where he impacted untold members of the community. He was also a philosophical man. Poetry and especially music profoundly moved him. He was open and accepting to all, and had the ability to connect with anyone. He was as loyal a friend or family member one could ask for and his love for his children and grandchildren trumped all. He was so many things to so many people and is deeply missed.
