Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Milton David Beach, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019.
He is survived by his second wife, Elizabeth Beach; three children, retired U.S. Navy Capt. Scott Beach (Kim) of Colleyville, Texas, Mark Beach (Dr. Lynne Beach) of Garland, Texas, and Joy Beach Moynihan (retired U.S. Navy Reserve Capt. J.J. Moynihan) of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Kelsey Westbrook (Darrel) of Fort Worth, Texas, Alli Martin (Darren) of Colleyville, Texas, Taylor Beach of Frisco, Texas, Morgan Leigh Beach of Garland, Texas, Lieutenant (junior grade) Travis Beach (Grace) of Anacortes, Washington, Mitch Moynihan of Virginia Beach and Colin Moynihan of Dallas, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Connor Westbrook, Quinn Westbrook and Jake Martin. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Sarah Ewert Beach, who died in 2008.
Milt was a decorated Vietnam veteran and career Naval aviator who went on to serve as senior defense advisor for Senator John Glenn. He also worked for Senator John Warner in his local offices.
A sports enthusiast, he was an avid golfer and handball player. Also a passionate lover of theater, he performed in a number of plays in the Tidewater area.
He was a 1951 graduate of Lubbock High School and graduated with a degree in radio and television from the University of Houston in 1955 before entering into Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Florida.
He was an active member of Eastern Shore Chapel for over 50 years. He served on the vestry and was also a Eucharistic minister and a lector.
He was a resident of Atlantic Shores Retirement Community for the last 15 years.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Eastern Shore Chapel, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach.
