Thomas “Ted” Dowling Jr., 86, of Virginia Beach, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Thomas and Lucille Renfro Dowling. Thomas entered the U.S. Navy as a young man. After leaving the service, he spent his life in Hampton Roads as a mechanical engineer, mostly with Hicks and Ingle Corporation. He was the superintendent in charge of building some of the larger facilities in this area; such as, the Hampton Coliseum and DePaul Hospital. However, he was most honored and proud of CBN and always thought of that as his best work, as it was done in the love for his Lord Jesus. He served our Lord for 30 years at Rock Church, 10 years at KPC, and lastly, at Abounding Grace, his “family,” as he always referred to them.
He was preceded in death by his first born son, Thomas Dowling III; older brother, Patrick; and sisters, Patricia and Dixie Carol.
He is survived by his wife of 67 wonderful years, Joyce Whitehurst Dowling; beloved son, Timothy Earl Dowling; and a very special friend, Bud Smith.
Ted leaves many wonderful friends who were like family to him. He spent most of his life in the hobby of breeding and showing collies, “The Shepherds” dog, he shared his faith with so many. He had a large family!
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The conclusion of the service will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, your gift of love to Abounding Grace Church would be a wonderful blessing.
Share online condolences with the family at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory.
