Deaconess Annette Patricia Cowell, 54, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019. Annette was born Feb. 26, 1965, in Cheverly, Maryland.
Annette was previously employed with the U.S. government prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps. She also was a teacher’s assistant. Annette was educated in Prince George County School System. She ran track, was on the drill team and played basketball in high school. She furthered her education by graduating with a medical assistant diploma.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, retired U.S. Marine Corps. Sgt. Maj. Edward Burnell Cowell; children, LaTrece, Christopher and Zion Cowell; parents, Deaconess Sarah and Minister Billy Akins; brothers, Lester S. Suydan (Marla) and Ricky C. Suydan (Gretchen); nieces and nephews Ariel, Jalan, Ivory Garrett, Noah and Giselle; and a host of loving extended family members and friends.
A viewing and wake service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at First Baptist Church Campostella, 1510 Conoga St., Norfolk. Interment will be held in Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Road, Chesapeake, immediately after the celebration of life.
Annette was a loving wife to her husband Eddie, mother to her children, Trece, Chris and Zion the Lion, all of whom she adored and protected fiercely. She was a proud Marine and dear friend to all. She will forever be missed. We love you, Nana.
