William Anthony Ross, 76, outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing

William Anthony Ross, 76, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.

He was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Tennessee, the son of the late Eugene and Ruth Ross. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Ross, and family.

William was a veteran of the U.S. Army. A God-fearing man, he was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Virginia Beach and sang in the men’s choir. He was a simple man who loved animals, good jokes and the outdoors, especially barbecues and fishing. His hobbies included making bird houses, cooking, and he never missed an episode of his favorite TV shows. William had a sweet-tooth, and loved his candy and bubble gum.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
