Bobby Joe Watson, 86, enjoyed watching sports in his man cave

Bobby Joe Watson, 86, a resident of Virginia Beach, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019. He was born Feb. 10, 1933, to the late Claude and Christine Watson in Greenville, South Carolina, before migrating to New York. He received his formal education through the New York City public school system. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army.

In 1954, he married Lillian Davis in Brooklyn, New York, and together they had three sons, Jeffrey, Brian and Lance. Together, Bobby and Lilian shared a beautiful marriage of 65 years. Bobby worked for the New York City Transit System for 33 years as a bus driver and tower man, retiring in 1985.

His hobbies included watching sports (basketball, baseball, tennis and horse-racing) in his man cave, listening to jazz music, spending time with his family and traveling. His favorite teams were the New York Knicks, Jets and Mets.

Bobby leaves behind his wife, Lilian Watson; three sons, Jeffrey Watson, Brian Watson and Lance Watson; daughter-in-laws; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon, Saturday, Sept. 7, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon prior to services at the funeral home.
