Mrs. Rhodora “Rhoda” de Leon Farrell, 58, of Virginia Beach, peacefully returned to her heavenly home Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.
Rhoda was born April 18, 1961, to parents Teofilo Jarlego de Leon and Aurora San Miguel de Leon in Manila, Philippines. She grew up as the youngest of eight and moved to Louisiana, United States, in 1980.
Rhoda married Larry McCarley in 1982 and the couple had two children. Rhoda held many occupations throughout her life and was always active in local churches. Her last career as a nurse was the most fulfilling, as she always felt drawn to love and care for those who were unable to care for themselves. Rhoda didn’t identify anyone as strangers; if someone needed help, she would go out of her way to serve in any capacity as if they were her child, brother, sister or mother.
She rarely complained about the pain she suffered for many years, and pain seldom prevented her from wanting to help others. Rhoda believed love is not passive; you could see her love by actions and the way she treated everyone. Anyone who met Rhoda immediately felt her warmth and spirit and loved everything about her.
She was preceded in death by her father Teofilo Jarlego de Leon, her brother Liberato de Leon.
Rhoda is survived by her husband, Thomas Farrell; son, John McCarley; daughter, Kara McCarley; sisters, Aurora Barbae and Daisy Payer; brothers, Teofilo Junior, Reynaldo de Leon, Emmanuel de Leon and Renato de Leon, one grandchild; and mother, Aurora San Miguel de Leon.
