Angela Kathrine Hylan Harvey, 61, of Virginia Beach, lost her brave eight-week battle with bile duct cancer Sunday, July 7, 2019.

Born Aug. 16, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Hylan and Lotte Hylan of Woodbridge.

She recently worked as nurse navigator at Bon Secours. Inspired by her two daughters who were born premature, she started her career as a NICU nurse at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital. She also worked at Norfolk General in cardio pulmonary rehab and then as an inpatient nurse navigator at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

Angela became a registered nurse in 2001 and recently graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in Spring 2019. In 2012, she received her holistic nursing certification and became board certified. She enjoyed traveling the world, spoke fluent German, had a great sense of humor and loved to help people.

She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 37 years, John Harvey Jr., and resided in Virginia Beach since 1978. She is also survived by her twin daughters, Alexandra Laustsen, with husband, Wayne Laustsen, and Danielle Harvey, with fiancé Colin Roberts; two sisters, Cynthia Taylor and Stephanie Recupero, with husband, Bill Recupero; sister-in-law, Dawn Wheaton; brother-in-law, Kenneth Harvey; and mother-in-law, Donna Harvey Freeman. She loved her many nieces and nephews, including Nik Harvey, Alexander Harvey, Joel McDonald, Jeremy Harvey, Nicole Myers, Ashlynn Blythe, Sophia Recupero, Madison Recupero and William Recupero. She also had a loving extended family to include the Pongratz family from Amberg, Germany, the Hylan family, the Hill family and the Freeman family.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be sent to the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater, which helps with local patients battling cancer; or American Association of Cancer Research, which helps fund research for bile duct cancer.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 18, at Old Donation Church, 4449 North Witch Duck Road, Virginia Beach.
