Gail Frances Walden, 72, of Virginia Beach, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Gail was the eldest child born to Maynard and Irma Milligan in Littleton, New Hampshire, with three brothers and two sisters. She grew up in New Hampshire and was very proud to be from the New England area near White Mountain.
However, the lure of warmer weather and mild climate overrode the cold and snowy winters. She traveled from Boston to eventually reside in Virginia Beach, with stops along the way including Hawaii, Italy, the Bahamas and Florida. She worked as a waitress and finally found her niche as an office secretary working in the real estate industry.
Gail had a very outgoing personality usually with a big smile and hug which demonstrated her affectionate nature, whether it was a friend, neighbor or the Walmart greeter. She was a very proficient baker and made many decorative birthday cakes for special occasions.
Gail retired after devoting 30 years as a secretary with the last 16 running her husband’s appraisal office. Retirement was just another step for her to start another endeavor, which was managing her home and making new friends. She joined many crochet groups and spent time helping others with advice and encouragement, whether they were a novice or advanced. An afghan was always being worked upon as well as knit hats, scarves, baby blankets or anything else that someone wanted “Granny Gail” to make.
Gail was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 4809, in which she was very supportive of her husband as they attended the various functions.
Many lives were touched during her journey through this world. She would want everyone to know that happiness is being kind and considerate to all.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charles E. Walden; son, Sean Ferrell (Hattie); Armond Walden (Beulah), Ron Walden (Cathy), Darryl Walden (Tonya) and Tracey Walden (Angelina); and many other relatives and friends.
