Gertrude Marie ‘Trudy’ Shofner, 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, one month after the death of her husband, William Shofner, to whom she was married for 66 years.
She was born May 2, 1930, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the only child of John Joseph and Gertrude Josephine (Hendren) MacGillivray.
Trudy is survived by three children, Janet (Jim) Durham of Houston, Texas, Aleta (Tom) Winterling of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Mark (Sharon) Shofner of Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Trudy spent most of her adult life in southern California. She and Bill frequently took the family on outings all over southern California and camping trips. She valued education and took community college classes to learn new skills and broaden her horizons, as well as earning credentials in library science. She enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, family history research, keeping up on politics and meeting people. Trudy loved getting together with her large extended family.
