Gertrude Marie ‘Trudy’ Shofner, 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, one month after the death of her husband, William Shofner, to whom she was married for 66 years.

She was born May 2, 1930, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the only child of John Joseph and Gertrude Josephine (Hendren) MacGillivray.

She valued education and took community college classes to learn new skills and broaden her horizons, as well as earning credentials in library science. She enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, family history research, keeping up on politics and meeting people. Trudy loved getting together with her large extended family.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
