Mitchell A. “Mitch” Vickers, 58, died Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Mitch was born May 18, 1960, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the first child of Jim and Eloise Vickers.
He is survived by his mother; wife, Barbara; three children, Larry, Joshua and Leigh Anne; four grandchildren; and brother, Todd.
Mitch was seven years old when the family moved to Virginia Beach. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1978 and attended Virginia Tech. In 1983, he entered the apprentice program at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He worked at Naval Sea Systems Command as an industrial engineer specialist. His job required travel to several states, including Hawaii, Spain, South Korea and Taiwan.
Mitch and Barbara enjoyed camping and boating with their children as they grew up. Both of them continued to enjoy camping and especially going to NASCAR with their travel trailer in tow. Mitch took great joy in many outdoor activities. He loved to ski in winter and water ski in summer. He also loved to fish and thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasure of walking on the beach with Barbara. They delighted in their vacations, but three stand out — the Grand Canyon, Hawaii and Germany.
Mitch was an avid reader, with a brain that absorbed a wide range of information. He had the knowledge and skilled hands to fix almost anything. His passing leaves a tremendous void and hurt in the lives of his family and friends. He was very much loved and will be missed.
A memorial service for Mitch will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 12, at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church.
