Helen Martha McClenny, 94, ‘second mother’ and ‘granny’ to children in her neighborhood

Helen Martha McClenny, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, with her loving family by her side. She was born Oct. 2, 1924, to the late Visa J. and Henry Kite in Bristol, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Raymond McClenny. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and an avid dog lover. She was a “second mother” and “granny” to many of the children in the neighborhood throughout her life and taught everyone about the love of Jesus and lived by example. She was a true friend to all.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Brenda Nobles, Linda Brenneman and Joanne Shakallis, and her husband, Paul; son, Raymond McClenny Jr., and his wife, Barbara; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road,
Virginia Beach.
