Rodney Carl ‘Rod’ Rasmussen, 76, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019. Rod was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Elgin, Illinois. He was the son of Gertrude Johanna and Allen Anton Rasmussen.
Rod lived most his life in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended Westminster College and Northwestern University for a career in broadcast journalism. It was this career that took him to Waynesboro, where he worked for WAYB radio and met the love of his life, Joanne Henderson.
Rod switched careers and worked for the family business as a milkman for the Modern Dairy in Elgin, Illinois. This career ended when the dairy was sold and he ended up in Virginia Beach and retired after 27 years with Xerox Corporation as an engineering sales executive.
Rod leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Joanne Rasmussen; two sons, Jeffrey Allen and Jay William; daughter, Kristin R. Miller; son-in-law, Thomas E. Miller. He was a grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of five.
His passion was playing golf and spending a Saturday at his pool swimming and enjoying his family.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Friday, March 8, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, followed by a reception at Spring Branch Community Church’s Bistro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
