Retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Donald M. Grant, 91, of Virginia Beach, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Terrence and Bernice O’Day. He retired as a master chief petty officer submariner from the U.S. Navy. He was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church, where he was a deacon of the church and taught Sunday school to 5 year olds for 20 years.
Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Kiser. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma S. Grant; two daughters, Gail Lawhorn, and her husband, Eddie, of Virginia Beach and Donna Albright, and her husband, Skip, of Conway, South Carolina; two sons, David Grant and Mark Grant, both of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Bridget Hopwood, Shawna Lawhorn and Christopher Grant; and two great-grandchildren, William and Joshua Hopwood.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at London Bridge Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the church sanctuary followed by the committal at Princess Anne Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
