Stevi Poston Sisco, 66, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, surrounded by family after her courageous fight with cancer. An inspiration to us all, Stevi was a daughter to a large caring family, a loving mother and an incredible wife.
She was an avid tennis player, lover of all things Motown and dancing, and everyone’s favorite master in the kitchen. Stevi walked through life with selfless kindness to others and an unparalleled love for her family — her ultimate pride and joy.
Stevi was born Aug. 11, 1953, in Hamlet, North Carolina, to Joan Millikin Bender and the late James Leonard Poston. She was raised in Hamlet and spent a majority of her time there with her late grandparents, Margaret and Bennette Poston. They moved from Hamlet to live with her mother, Joan, in Virginia Beach in 1969. She graduated from Kellam High School in 1971. Following her high school graduation, Stevi worked multiple jobs around Virginia Beach. Most notably, she worked for Associated Distributors as a manager of wine sales, where she met her future husband, David, while he managed a restaurant in the area. Following the birth of her second child, Stevi stopped working to dedicate more time to raising her children.
She is survived by her husband of more than 35 years, David Webb Sisco; children, Michael Shane Sisco and Kara Sisco Halleran; mother, Joan Millikin Bender; sister, Toni Pait; brothers, Jeff Poston, Jimmy Poston and Keith Poston; and a large and loving collection of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and more.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, with a reception to follow. In honor of Stevi’s wishes, please feel free to dress casual and bring your uplifting spirits to share with family and friends.
