Dorothy Elizabeth Belile, 82, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in Virginia Beach. She was born Nov. 14, 1936, in Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Varner. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Curtis E. Belile; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Harold Fitzgerald of Fredericksburg; three children, Sandy and Doug Carroll of Knoxville, Tennessee, Bonnie K. Belile of Virginia Beach, and Curt and Lenore Belile of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Jennifer and Drew Dawson, Alex Baxter, Tisha Bohr, Jen and Rick Colonno, Melody Mattice, Myles and Anne Marie Shipp, Matthew Shipp, Tyler Belile, Tanner Belile, Erin and Blake Strain, Alex Godwin and Sara Godwin; and 12 great-grandchildren, Rett, Maggie, Will, Aiden, Jake, Nick, Henry, Mia, Paige, Parker, Piper and Rosemary.

Dorothy graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington. After attending Strayer Business College, she worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. She married Curtis in 1957 and raised three children on her own while he was serving his country. She was truly a devoted wife and mother.

Dorothy was an active member of the The Gathering at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church for 60 years. During those years, she served numerous positions in the church, including president of the United Methodist Women, children’s Sunday school coordinator, bazaar chairperson, vacation Bible school coordinator, Sunday school teacher and member of the Ruth Circle, Sewing Circle and the choir.

A service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral following at 11 a.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Gathering at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church.
