Stephen John “Steve” Raible, 66, of Virginia Beach, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. Born in Arkansas, he was the son of the late Wilford and Delores Raible.
He was an able-bodied seaman with Military Sealift Command for 22 years, and prior to that, served in the U.S. Army. Steve, known as “Smiley” to his closest friends, was a competitive Putt-Putt player; enjoyed traveling, playing cards, visiting casinos, teaching his grandkids how to eat “squash,” and spending time with family and friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus when he lived in Arkansas.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Raible.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois Holmes-Raible; children, Chris Raible (Virginia), Clint Raible, Eric Raible (Tori) and Laura Sager (Christian); grandchildren, Cabrina (John), Ryan (Karsen), Isabelle, Jacob and Keaton; great-granddaughter, Everlee; brothers, Paul (Judy) and Chris (Lori); sister, Terry (Dan); sisters-in-law, Claudette Raible, Alice Marshall and JoAnn Donithan (Kyler); as well as other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel. A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Princess Anne Chapel with a reception to follow at the funeral home. A second memorial service will be held in Fort Smith, Arkansas, for friends and family who cannot attend the Virginia Beach service.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
