Eric P. “Rick” Kaiser, 85, of Hanson Way, died Sunday morning at Sentara Nursing Windermere, Virginia Beach. He was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey, a son of Erich and Myra Staub Kaiser.
He was a graduate of Irvington High School, Class of 1948, and went into the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He sailed all around the world as well as served in the Vietnam War. After 20 years, he retired achieving the rank of chief petty officer. In civilian life, he worked for several companies, including Allied Repair Services and Marine Hydraulics International, where he served as the corporate safety director at both companies. An avid fisherman from a young age, he was always happiest near, or on, the ocean.
He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Manger of Jackson, New Jersey; three sons and a daughter, Marc R. Kaiser, and his wife, Beverley, of Pompano Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Brooke and Courtney; Eric Kaiser, and his wife, Denise, of Auburn, Maine; grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas; Ricky Kaiser of Florida; Renee Kaiser Elilionis of Orange Park, Florida; grandchildren, Careylyn Jordan and Joymarie Steely, and her husband, Bobby; great-grandchildren, Ava Jade and Issac, Arianne Leary, and her husband, Walker, Elijah and Jemma.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation.
