Shirley Alton Myrick, 98, of Virginia Beach, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018.

Born in Littleton, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John and Leah Myrick. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired as director of Transportation at Little Creek Amphibious Base. He was a member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Hamlet Myrick, and second wife, Lydia R. Myrick. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Corliss Faircloth, and her husband, Gerry, of Smithfield; son, Wayne Myrick, and his wife, Carolyn, of Virginia Beach; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the friends and staff at the Chesapeake Retirement Community, where he resided for the past few years.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
