Suzan Fore Sadler Bonta, 92, of Virginia Beach and Sarasota, Florida, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

Born in Norphlet, Arkansas, Susan founded and owned Capt. Jim’s Imports, a retail store in Virginia Beach, for many years. She was also a practicing clinical psychologist in Virginia Beach for 24 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Watson Huskey Fore; father, Earl Robert Fore; brother, Earl Robert Fore Jr.; former husband, James Pearce Sadler; granddaughter, Julia Collins Baylor; and son-in-law, Corydon Mercer Baylor Jr.

Susan graduated summa cum laude from Texas Woman’s University and was a Fellow at Cornell Medical College. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, King’s Daughters Union, The Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, the Princess Anne Country Club and the Sea Grapes Garden Club, Sarasota. Susan was a cofounder of the Virginia Beach Public Library and chaired the residential unit of the United Way in Virginia Beach.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Anthony Bonta; daughters, Michaele Fore Sadler Lucas, and her husband, Terry, of Tacoma, Washington, and Lane Lamonte Sadler Walsh, and her husband, Joseph, of Wayne, Pennsylvania; and three daughters by a previous marriage, Sandra Lane Sadler Baylor of Virginia Beach, Betty James Sadler Fuller, and her husband, James, of Titusville, Florida, and Chesapeake, and Mary Sue Sadler Morris, and her husband, Jackie, of Virginia Beach and North Palm Beach, Florida. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, James Canyon Lucas, Lane Michaele Lucas Scarduzio, James Pearce Walsh, Anne Baylor, Corydon Baylor, Kathryn Lane Baylor, Kimberly Anne Baylor, Jacqueline Pearce Johnson Gerhardt and Cameron Lane Johnson; as well as four great-grandchildren, Sadler and Anderson Lucas and Emery and Teagen Scarduzio.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Kathleen M. Bobbitt.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, 740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451; or the Virginia Beach SPCA, 3040 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
