Born Arthur Carey Stallings Jr. on July 4, 1954, Carey, 64, was a native son of Virginia Beach. He passed from this world Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, being preceded in death by his father, Arthur C. Stallings Sr.; and stepson, David F. George.
He is survived by his mother, Martha N. Stallings; wife, Debora L. Stallings; stepson, Sebastian E. Greenwood; son, Alexander G. Stallings (Hannah, and son, Asher); daughter, Rejina M. Stallings (Jason, and daughter, Violet); brother, John S. “Jay” Stallings III; and nephew, John M. Stallings.
Carey made friends easily, many of those close relationships enduring since graduating from Frank W. Cox High School in 1972. Carey received his bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and pursued graduate work there. Carey was a self-taught musician, constantly learning (and collecting) new instruments, aspiring to be a virtuoso, able to integrate seamlessly with any other musician. His desire and drive to be exceptional and adaptive in any musical production highlighted him as a local talent.
Being a voracious and compulsive reader, Carey developed wide and varied interests to include philosophy, which was his master’s degree pursuit, and religion. Carey’s talents also led him into the professions of business brokerage, tax preparation and IT. Gifted with intelligence, wit and compassion, Carey will be sorely missed and long remembered by those who were close to him.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Sunday, Dec. 2, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach.
