Mildred Parker, 81, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach who most recently lived in Yorktown, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Mildred was born in Columbia, North Carolina, and learned her strong work ethic by living and working on a farm. She moved to Norfolk in the late 1950s, where she worked at a bank and met the love of her life and future husband on a blind date.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Horace B. Parker Jr.
She is survived by one son, H.B. Parker III (Jill) of Virginia Beach; and four daughters, Debra Shockey (Don) of Mechanicsville, Wanda Fralick (Dion) of Yorktown, Sandra Parker Sancilio (John) and Agnes Burkhart (Greg) of Virginia Beach. She was also blessed to have 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Newport News. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Patient Advocate Foundation co-payment relief program.
Mildred had five children and each considered themselves to be her favorite, and they were.
