Marjorie Grace Sullivan, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, after a long illness. Marjorie was born Sept. 16, 1929, to the late William and Louise Sullivan in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
After graduating from the College of New Rochelle in 1951, she was employed as a chemist for 35 years at Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley, New Jersey.
Upon retirement in New Jersey, Marge spent a brief time in Deerfield Beach for an active social life, teaching and real estate work. In 1998, Marge moved to Virginia Beach, where she continued her active life of learning and leadership. Supported and loved by a remarkable faith community, she participated in numerous church ministries, including Outreach to Haiti, contact with the incarcerated and the Just Faith educational opportunities. She enjoyed countless arts and social events and continued her love of travel.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Frank Sullivan (Judy); sisters, Louise Shepherd (George) and Eleanor Barry (Michael deceased); and her special friend since 1999, Brother Charles M. Warthen, CFX She was predeceased by her brother, William. She was fondly known and loved as Aunt Marge to 16 nieces and nephews. Marge will be forever loved by her many friends, especially her “beloved community” in Hampton Roads.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Church of the Holy Family with Father Eric Ayers officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. All are welcome to participate in this celebration of a special life and a reception following services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church of the Holy Family, Haiti Committee, will be greatly appreciated.
