On Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, Greenville L. “Greenie” Wright Jr., 89, of Virginia Beach, left this earth to join the faithful at the throne of God.

Born Aug. 4, 1929, in Princess Anne County, Greenie was baptized at London Bridge Baptist Church and attended Oceana High School before graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a letter in wrestling and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Horticulture. A dedicated civil servant, he retired after 35 years of federal service. Greenie loved the water; fishing, boating and body surfing at Virginia Beach.

While small in stature, he touched everyone he met with his giant heart and enveloping spirit. Loving, kind and generous, Greenie was a devoted family man with a wonderful sense of humor and strong moral compass.

He was welcomed at the gates of heaven by his parents, Greenville L. Wright Sr. and Ruth E. Wright; and his elder sister, Evelyn Strohkorb. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, G.L. Wright III (Suzy), Cindy W. Anderson (Gene) and Ivy W. Bush; three grandchildren, John G. Bush, Cheyenne M. Wright and Cameron D. Wright; one sister, Irene Nielsen; and many nieces and nephews. He was our rock and our best friend, and he left us with many happy, wonderful memories to cherish. There were no strangers to Greenie, only friends he hadn’t yet met.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Virginia Beach Blvd.
