Henry J. Van Der Waarden, 88, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. Mr. Van Der Waarden was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and had lived in Virginia Beach for the past seven years.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked as a self-employed mechanical repairman, could fix anything and was a ham radio enthusiast. Henry was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 67 years, Lena Van Der Waarden; two children, Peggy Grasso, and her husband, Bill, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Phyllis Aversa, and her husband, Ken, of Virginia Beach; sister, Helen Wolf of Arizona; three grandchildren, Josh, Alyson and April; two great grandchildren, Eli and Charlie; and very close family friend, Loretta.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Sept. 11, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Entombment will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Glen Allen.
In lieu of flowers, please have a glass of wine and give Henry a toast.
