Ruth Waugaman Hauck, 82, volunteered with Virginia Aquarium

Ruth Waugaman Hauck, 82, of Virginia Beach, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018. She was a nurturing wife, mother and grandmother who will be forever missed by those who loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Edward of Virginia Beach; son, Thomas, and his wife, Cathy; sons, David and Jimmy of Somerset, New Jersey; daughter, Janet of Virginia Beach; daughter, Mary, and her husband, Edwin Hughes, and son, Cameron, of Virginia Beach; sister-in-laws Gloria Hauck of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and Jean Waugaman, Grove City, Pennsylvania.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Hazel Trusal Waugaman of Indiana, Pennsylvania; sister, Lois, and her husband, Morris Carlson, of Indiana, Pennsylvania; and brother, Robert Waugaman of Grove City, Pennsylvania.

Ruth graduated from Indiana High School and received a B.S. Degree in Education with a in major Elementary Education, Master of Education Degree, Major Guidance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pennsylvania; and Specialist Certificate in Guidance from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. She taught in elementary classrooms in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, and Columbus, Ohio. She served as elementary guidance counselor in Penns Manor School District, Clymer, Pennsylvania; South-Western School District, Grove City, Ohio; and retired as an elementary guidance counselor from Keystone School District, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, in 1998.

She was active in her church serving as a deacon in Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and in leadership and volunteer roles in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Upper Arlington, Ohio. More recently, she was a volunteer at the Virginia Aquarium, Virginia Beach, for several years.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to Plaza Volunteer EMTs of Virginia Beach or the Virginia Aquarium.
